The Refuge Golf Club: Pretty Golf Course With Bite

September 10, 2018 By mrbg

The Refuge Golf Club, just outside of Oak Grove, MN in the Burn Township, has to be one of the “prettiest” golf course I have played in Minnesota.  However, the golf course has a Bite.  Every one of their greens has hidden breaks that only a Local would know.  If you play, be ready for a wedding to be held at the Clubhouse.

The Refuge Golf ClubThe Clubhouse of The Refuge Golf Club is very large and is used for a lot of local weddings.  But Back to the Golf.

Developed in 2001 by Golf Course Architect Kevin Norby, this awesome golf club creates a beautiful up-north feel while remaining close to its suburban location in the Twin Cities region.

The Refuge Golf Club also offers an extensive practice area including a large severely undulating practice green, chipping green with practice bunker, and full length driving range. But get ready for the Flight Restricted balls..you might think you are at Top Golf.

The Refuge has built the reputation of being one of the top courses in Minnesota and earned a rating of 4 ½ stars from Golf Digest.

Golf Week ranked The Refuge Golf Club in their Top 5 “Places to Play” in Minnesota while also earning the honor of “The Favorite Facility to Play” by the Twin Cities Golf Guide!

And based on features such as playability, service, friendliness, course conditions, etc., The Hacker’s Guide selected The Refuge Golf Club as their top Minnesota facility.

MEN’S: Black 72.8/148 Green 71.3/144 White 69.8/134
WOMEN’S: White 74.3/143 Gold 71.8/138 Purple 68.7/132

There are a lot of hazards on this course..mostly seen off the tee.  The Cart path for several of the holes on the back nine are built over marshy areas and tee boxes are sitting in the middle of the marsh resulting in some long carries to hit the fairway.

There are a few holes where there are elevation changes of up to 50 ft.

Treat yourself to the majestic splendor of The Refuge Golf Club, where 350 acres of woods and wetlands have been carved into one of the most unique layouts I have ever seen. The magnificence of the course design is evident with island type tee boxes mixed within the wetlands and tree-lined fairways, offering sensational views of nature throughout your 18-hole journey.

Bring a sack of balls and enjoy this golf club.

Let me know how I can help.
