It took a bid to look-up in my thesaurus another word to use meaning Awesome.
What I found was the word ‘Awesome’ still was the best word to use to describe the renovation of the Gleneagles Country Club in Plano, Texas. They simple did an awesome job reinventing an awesome country club who has a whole lotta very awesome members.
Gleneagles Country is one of ClubCorp family of tier one level private country clubs. Gleneagles has constantly been rated as one of the top private clubs in the Dallas/Ft Worth area. Their latest $3.5 millon renovation should insure their status as Plano’s premier private club.
What Did I Think About It?
I was invited to attend the Gleneagles Country Clubs Club Crawl, a club sponsored event that showcased their new updates and renovation. My review is as follows.
Naturally, Gleneagles has always been a spectacular private club with two golf courses featuring the TaylorMade Performance Lab, a theme park swimming pool, tennis courts and a kids center.
With the new redesign of the clubhouse it streamlines the walk through traffic from the grand entrance way, with its ornate circle driveway, to the backdoor showcasing the massively expanded golf pro-shop. Very few parts of the clubhouse were left untouched from the year long redo.
Business Golf Facility
Of course I gravitated to looking at the entire facility through the eyes of a Business Golfer for which I could see me setting up office in their infamous, and very well done, Tony’s Cellar!
I kept my thesaurus open in search of another word for WOW! Because ‘Wow’ was what I kept saying as I walked through the casual bar area.
Speaking of Golf
Both the men’s and women’s locker rooms and card rooms were updated during a previous redo. A quick run through review I made was impressive and either area would make the perfect place for any kind of after golf get together. And, yes,the beer was REAL cold in there as well.
The TalyorMade Performance Center was not officially on the Club Crawl but I, of course, made it part of my adventure since there are not very many TaylorMade Performance Labs in the country..or the world. Gleneagles has been designated as a location for one of their off the chart state of the art training centers.
I sum up my experience there as like being a kid in a Toys r Us.
So, back to the Club Crawl..
Dinning Awesomeness
The casual dinning room presented itself well. The lounge area was open with a view out over the driving range. There was ample seating for full dining but well placed seating quaint enough to have an idle chat or watch the action unfold on the wall filled with large flatscreen televisions.
The main dining room was adjustable to the size needed for any dinning event with plenty of space for a number of different layouts. Of course cushy leather chairs..the most awesome of seating..were everywhere.

All along the back side of the clubhouse was the balcony terrace overlooking the well manicured driving range and an outstanding view of a few golf holes of one of the two golf courses. Sitting on the porch offers a very peaceful atmosphere for decompressing after a rough day at the office or on the golf course…or both, as is many time my case.
Keeping Fit
The newly redone fitness center offers everything anyone would need to have a great workout or just a simple stretch before hitting the links. The feeling of everything being state of the art was the allover message that came through the sparkling new fitness center.
Kids Not Forgotten
As most private country clubs are realizing, the country club experience for today’s generation of private club members now has to include the entire family. This change in attitude has been a long time coming in the private club industry and it is really good to see private clubs like Gleneagles paying attention to their member’s needs.
One of those needs family members have is to provide for the kids interests while at the club. If the kids have nothing to do it means mom and dad have to provide for the entertainment for the kids while at the club. This sometimes results in members with young kids developing second thoughts about the value of their private club experience.
The kid’s entertainment extended out to the pool which featured a theme park atmosphere with slides that looked like a lot of fun. The pool area was large enough to also have lap lanes, making a great place for the parents to keep cool and enjoy the water park with the kids.
Gleneagles also added a well thought out kids center where parents can feel safe letting their kids play and socialize with other kids while mom and dad enjoy the adult side of the club. Touché to Gleneagles for making the changes in the clubhouse to include the kids..who are their future members.
Club Crawl to Excellence
The Club Crawl was a Gleneagles’ sponsored event that showcased, to it’s members and guests, the new renovations. It was a huge success. The staff at GCC was top notch and were on their game..not that they needed to be since everyone of them love what they do for the membership.
From the valet parking attendant jockeying the members cars to the golf assistant outside the pro-shop serving up beer and pretzels, everyone of them were gleaming with pride at what they now offer their membership which is an Awesome Country Club.
I look forward to accepting any invitation I get to return to the Gleneagles Country Club.
