Tiger Woods in Another Scandal

June 4, 2010 By mrbg

Will Tiger Woods every learn?

Tiger Woods‘ second appearance in a television ad since his return to competitive golf is a good deal less somber than his first.

Woods, who lost a number of endorsement deals in the midst of his sex scandal, is a central figure in ads for Electronic Arts’ "Tiger Woods PGA Tour ’11," The Wall Street Journal reported.

The latest commercial was posted on the Internet by EA Sports on Thursday, the beginning of a major ad campaign for its Woods video game. The commercial is scheduled to air in prime-time Sunday during Game 2 of the NBA finals on ABC.

In the ad, a clip of which is included in The Wall Street Journal report, Woods and teammates representing the United States take the course against a squad from Europe, as the new game features options for simulated Ryder Cup competition and team play.

Unlike Woods’ initial return to advertising — a spot for Nike, in which a somber Woods, filmed in black and white, listens to advice from his late father, Earl — the EA ad, as seen in the report, is full of humorous references to aspects of other team sports that are out of place in golf, such as jet flyovers, cheerleaders (at one point holding signs that spell "shhhhh") and a pep talk from former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka. The game will be released Tuesday.

"It was time to bring some life and fun back into golf," said Peter Moore, the president of EA Sports, according to the report. "It’s been a tough six months in the business of golf and with what went on with Tiger … it is time to lighten up."

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
