Nike SQ DYMO STR8-Fit: Does the DANK Out Hit the Dunk?!

June 29, 2009 By mrbg

I was out on the driving range yesterday evening along with about 20 other hardy Texans…I know they must be near native Texans since they know to use the driving only after the sun goes behind the clubhouse and the tee box is in the shade.  But I digress…

As I looked down the line on the range I notice the sound of the swings and noise all of the drivers were making.  Somehow, the noise of the driver heads just stayed in my head.  Even after I stretched and went through my Freddy Couples back gyrations those ‘Whacks’ and ‘Dings’ just seemed to keep coming at me.  I was having a hard time shaking them off.

As I looked over to the bag to start my workout I saw that Big Yellow NIKE swoosh headcover for my NIKE SQ DYMO STR8-Fit driver that I recently reviewed and thought of the sound it makes when you hit it.  So I decided to make a little noise myself.

As I went through my routine for the driver with placing the ball and the peg in the ground then stepping back to align the shot I could feel the eyes of the rest of range watching me…why, all the Dings and Whacks had stopped for a second..but then again it could of been that Mr Couple trance I go into when I address the ball that I finally blocked out all of the noise around me.

Then here came the moment for the STR8 sound bite…”DANK” and then the rest of the range seemed to join in right after that to make it sound like an off beat version of the Stomp Musical.

As I relaxed and got ready for another shot I keep hearing the Dings, Pings and Whacks at all kinds of different clarity of sounds.  Some seemed muffled and others seem to have a much lower tone…but the STR8 just had the one sound ‘Dank”.

After I got home I flipped on the Travelers Championship and watched Lucas Glover pounding his DYMO² with the same DANK.  Then Kenny Perry with his TaylorMade 460 R9 with his ‘DUNK’…

I guess if the sound makes any difference I would probably go with a club that makes the sound I am looking for and I guess they just have not made that club for me…but ‘Dank does sound better than ‘Dunk’ between these two clubs.

The next time you step up on the range for your workout see if you can hear the Danks and Dunks on the range and see which one fits your ear…I am sure it makes some difference.  Let me know how I can help.
